Champions League- Real Madrid ousted from the Champions League finals

Real Madrid’s hopes and dreams were smashed by Lyon on Wednesday, where the Spanish giants had a tied game but were beaten in the aggregate score, 2-1. No more final in the Bernabeu Stadium. No more Champions League. Real Madrid players were devastated by the result. This is yet another time Real Madrid has failed to advance to the quarterfinals; the team hasn’t made it since 2004. This year seemed to have incredible potential for Madrid, which was enjoying a winning streak and beginning to balance all the great new talent Coach Pellegrini purchased last summer. Even worse, the final was to be held at the Bernabeu Stadium this year. But Wednesday was not Real’s night; the team lost the first leg at France and had to make 2 goals in order to advance. And at home, there seemed to be real possibility. The game began well for Real Madrid, with strong energy in the players. Kaka was the first to make an attempt, but the goal was denied by Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Only five minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo took a pass from Gutis to the left and made a left-footed shot that ended up in Lyon’s net, setting the score 1-0 in the game and 1-1 in the aggregate. Real Madrid had opportunities in the first half to set the score 2-0, but the players were unable to score. Kaka, Ronaldo, and Higuain were all close but were unable to complete. The closest was the play made by Higuain at minute 25, when he skipped by the defense and passed Lloris to make an incredible shot aE” but the ball crashed into the near post, denying the Spanish team a second goal. The second half was a completely different story; the French team started on fire, producing great opportunities. The first came at minute 52 when Lisandro made a 25-yard shot that tested Madrid’s goalkeeper, Iker Casillas.

Casillas was clearly starting to feel the pressure produced by the French team. French attempts finally brought results at minute 75 when Pjanic took a pass from Lisandro in the area; with a volley, he then passed Casillas to score Lyon’s first goal in the game. After that goal, there was no way back for Real Madrid. The team, already lackluster in the second half, didn’t fight anymore. In fact, Madrid was lucky the French didn’t score again, as the team had more opportunities at the end. As the French players celebrated the victory at the end of the game, Guti said that Madrid hadn’t played well, not as it used to. “We should have played more like a team instead of playing like a group of individuals. In the second half, we didn’t play as we should. They started to attack when they saw that we weren’t pressing we had before halftime. That was the time to be a team. Now, we can only think about La Liga, which is all we have left.” Despite the loss and questions about his career, Pellegrini stated that he would stay with Real Madrid to the end. He had no intention of resigning and would keep on working towards the team’s next goal this season: La Liga.

Barcelona Leads The Revolution

With their second UEFA Champions League title in three years, added to their three consecutive Liga championships the players guided by Joseph Guardiola have demonstrated in times where results are more important than playing nice, that it is not an utopia to play flashy and still manage to win titles.

When Dutch Frank Rikjaard’s five-year cycle as head coach of F.C. Barcelona came to an end with the 2007-2008 season, the Spanish media began to speculate with the arrival of Portuguese Jose Mouirinho to lead the new project. After a successful passage through Oporto and Chelsea, Mourinho had all the credentials of a winner, but former Barcelona President Joan Laporta wasn’t convinced that his profile would fit in the philosophy of the club.

Instead, Laporta decided to take a risky move by hiring a man of the house, Joseph Guardiola, former club player and head coach of Barcelona B. Feeling the support of the president on his side, Guardiola followed Laporta’s line too and decided to make a risky move as well: resign to Brazilian star Ronaldinho and choose Argentinean Lionel Messi as the head cornerstone of his project.

As a player Guardiola was part of the most glorious generation in the history of the club, which became known as the Dream Team. That squad coached by Dutch Johan Cruyff won four La Liga championships in a row and one UEFA Champions League title displaying a top-class game that awakened the admiration from the world between 1990 and 1994.

Finding another generation of players that could take the game to such exquisite levels was something that many thought was impossible, especially in times where tactics and money overshadowed the essence of the game: having fun. But Barcelona had been working ahead of time aware of how hard it was going to be to find a group of players to build another Dream Team, and through La Masia -their youth academy- they began to inculcate the philosophy of the club on young prospects that we’re called to be the future of the club.

That philosophy consisted in keeping the possession of the ball, in trying to keep the ball for no more than one to two touches, always passing it around from side to side until one of them had a clear shot. It consisted in making fans vibrate through amazing collective plays, in always controlling the initiative of the game, in understanding that the best defense is to attack, but above all in having a good time while doing so.

With eight players in their starting 11 raised in the La Masia -Messi, Gerard Pique, Victor Valdes, Xavi Hernandez, Pedro Rodriguez, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquests and captain Carles Puyol-, added to his background, Guardiola began his first adventure as coach in La Liga with the Dream Team as role model.

The equation worked out better than expected for him, since in his debut year the team won the six titles that it disputed, which included the prestigious UEFA Champions League. The next year they secured another La Liga title and made the promise to their fans of making it to the Champions League final next year to be disputed at Wembley. And that was exactly what they just did this past Saturday after having won their third La Liga crown, the team stood true to their word and made into Wembley.

The best of their game was seen there against a powerful Manchester United that seemed like the only team that could put an end to their hegemony, but like all of Barcelona’s rivals they ended up surrendered at their feet.

With goals from Pedro, Messi and David Villa they defeated Man U 3-1 and raised their fourth Champions League trophy in club history, and second under Guardiola’s orders, guided by a superb Messi that ended as the top scorer of the tournament for third season in a row, this time with 12 goals.

Despite the success Guardiola prefers the low profile and avoids comparisons with the Dream Team, but it is clear more that cleared that not even the most prodigious football mind could have dreamed a team like his. Now Guardiola’s Barcelona is the inspiration of all those clubs that had only focused in results, forgetting about the beauty of the game.

How to Prevent Collapsing In Action For Sports Stars

“What is important to realize is that playing sport with Fulham Soccer Jersey vigorously can unmask an undiagnosed, underlying condition,” says Dr. Hilary Jones, a medical expert from England. “So when we see someone have a subarachnoid haemorrhage, a sudden stroke on the field of play, we’re shocked by it. If someone has a cardiac arrest, we’re very shocked by it. These events aren’t common, especially amongst athletes, but they aren’t rare either.” Jones says, in the UK, 12 young people under the age of 35 die each week from undiagnosed cardiac conditions — but only one in 45,000 sportsmen will suffer such a death.

Anybody playing a sport at a high level should be screened.” The exact diagnosis has yet to be released, but experts seem to agree it is most likely hypertrophic cardiomyopathy — a condition where the heart muscle thickens, causing a stoppage of blood flow.

“It is one of the most common genetic cardiac conditions in the human population,” says Devireddy. Jones says that sports players should have both EKGs (which interpret electrical activity) and ECHO cardiagrams — which use ultrasound techniques to create images of the heart.

“This varies from country to country depending on what the recommendations are. The U.S. is not actually advocating EKGs, but that’s very controversial internationally. There are some bodies that have had very close monitoring of this on a population basis, such as Italy where they said EKGs make a huge difference in detecting this in a population.”

“It’s completely counter-intuitive to look at a 23-year-old, very fit, highly talented sportsman like Fabrice Muamba having a cardiac arrest on the pitch with no prior warning, and it makes everyone think, ‘Could this happen to me?’ ” explains Jones.

“He would have had some underlying condition. He was fit in every other respect, and sport does make us fit, but it doesn’t rule out any underlying subtle conditions which are difficult to diagnose without screening tests. Anybody playing a sport at a high level should be screened.”

Professional sports players wearing Liverpool Training Jersey are generally in prime physical condition, especially with today’s advanced physiological, nutritional and medical knowledge.
